Our Meet-Cute Was Written in the Stars (Apparently)
I didn’t really know my ex-boyfriend-turned-bestie when he ran down the street after me to give me his number and ask me out for a drink. A bold move. A movie moment. A proper meet-cute. I was confused, sleepy, and trying to carry a bottle of wine without looking like a crazy lady. He had a moustache and a wild look in his eyes, the kind that says, “I don’t think things through but I definitely mean well.”
By the end of that first day texting, though, we knew each other. Not surface-level chat. I mean real conversations. Vulnerable, ridiculous, surprising. At some point, I asked his star sign, because of course I have no chill. He replied: “Aries. Apparently that’s scary?” And I laughed. Properly laughed. Because as a Taurus, I am absolutely scarier. Rock-solid with a silent stare that could freeze wine (but never would, because wine should never be mistreated like that).
What we didn’t realise then was how perfectly we were walking red flags for each other. He was all fire and action, and I was all grounded silence and suspicion. And yet, there was magic. Not because we ignored the signs, but because we chose to read them like a chaotic little love poem instead of a warning label.
Red Flags Are in the Eye of the Beholder
“Red flags” and Natal Charts are flung around like glitter at a pride parade. Aries is too much. Scorpio is scary. Gemini? Don’t even get me started. But my darling, just because someone else panics over a star sign doesn’t mean you need to.
Sometimes a red flag is just a colourful personality trait with a few sharp edges. Maybe you like your edges sharp. Maybe you are the red flag. The truth is, astrology isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s a vibe check, not a final judgement.
So before you start screaming “WALK AWAY!” because someone has a Gemini Venus*, ask yourself: is it really a red flag, or just someone who knows how to flirt better than you?
*Please don’t walk away from me. My Gemini Venus means well, I promise!
One Sign’s Chaos is Another’s Chemistry
You think Cancers are clingy? Someone else is out there praying for that kind of emotional availability. You say Sagittarius is too flaky? Another person hears “free spirit” and gets heart-eyes. And, yes, maybe Pisces placements will ghost you, cry about it, but then text you six weeks later with a dream they had about your grandma.
However, quite simply, one person’s chaos is another’s comfort zone. And usually with better snacks (i.e. Cheezels).
Astrological red flags are only red if you decide they are. What you can’t handle might be what someone else has on their manifestation list. Loud? Passionate? Intense? Hello, that’s literally the plot of every great rom-com.
It’s not about avoiding tension. Sometimes tension is the whole reason you even bother showing up. Chaos isn’t always the villain. Sometimes it’s the sparkly, emotionally complex anti-hero of your love story.
Green Flags Can Wear Red Hoodies
You know what’s exhausting? Expecting every Libra to be balanced, every Virgo to be organised, and every Pisces to be crying in the bathtub. People contain multitudes. Astrology gives us hints, not spoilers.
That trait you’re side-eyeing might actually be a sign of growth. Maybe that Scorpio isn’t mysterious and avoidant, they just don’t trauma-dump on first dates. Maybe that Libra isn’t indecisive, they’re considerate. Or maybe they’re a hot mess. But you know what? Maybe you are too. And that’s ok.
It’s time to stop playing Red Flag Bingo every time someone says their moon is in Leo. Nobody wins. Especially not your love life.
Context Over Chaos (Most Days)
You could meet the most grounded, stable Taurus on paper and still end up crying in the Coles car park because they ghosted you with no warning. And you could meet a triple Sagittarius who texts back within five minutes and brings you soup when you’re sick.
Charts are context, not contracts. Your rising sign didn’t sign a lease agreement to behave a certain way forever. People grow. People surprise you. And sometimes people disappoint you. That’s not astrology’s fault. That’s just people being people.
So yes, pay attention to the chart. But also pay attention to how they treat the customer service, how they speak about their exes*, and whether they know how to apologise without making it about themselves.
*If someone only has toxic exes and nothing good to say about any of them? That’s not just a red flag – that’s the whole semaphore alphabet. Run.
Sometimes You’re the Red Flag, Sweetheart
Let’s have a moment of truth. Sometimes, it’s not them. It’s you. You’re calling someone “emotionally avoidant” when really, you freak out every time someone asks how your day was. Oops.
Astrology can be a great way to understand people, but it’s an even better way to understand yourself. That red flag you keep dodging might be pointing to your own trigger, not their toxic traits.
So next time you’re judging someone for being “too much,” ask yourself, “Too much for who?” If the answer is you, that’s okay. But don’t blame their star chart. Blame your unfinished shadow work.
Taurus isn’t emotionally unavailable. We just don’t share our feelings with anyone who says ‘lol’ instead of laughing.
It’s a Cosmic Conversation, Not a Court Verdict
Astrology is delicious. Messy. Useful. Entertaining. But it’s not a magical force field that protects you from heartbreak or disappointment. It’s a conversation starter. A lens. A cheeky cosmic roadmap. It is not a reason to write someone off before they’ve even ordered a coffee.
If you treat every zodiac sign you don’t understand like a walking red flag, you’ll miss out on a whole world of experiences. You’ll date the same safe people and still end up crying to Parisian jazz at the bottom of your shower..
So yes, keep your wits about you. Learn the signs. Read the room and the birth chart. But don’t close the door just because someone’s Mars is in Aries. Sometimes the red flags are just flags. And sometimes, they’re hot.
Bonus: Me + Bestie = Fire Meets Earth
So here’s the thing. On paper, my Aries bestie and I shouldn’t work. Not even as friends. He’s fire, I’m earth. That’s supposed to be a recipe for scorched feelings and stubborn meltdowns. But here we are, despite going through a breakup, still choosing each other. Not romantically anymore, but with the kind of loyalty that makes the cosmos weep.
He craves comfort, and I crave adventure. I love to cook, and he loves to eat. He throws wild theories into the air, and I pin them down with practicality. We both love a good debate (and by debate, I mean competitive verbal sparring with snacks). And no, we’ve never had a fight. Just a few tears now and then (thanks, Pisces moon, I see you).
So yes, fire scorches earth. And earth smothers fire. But together? Sometimes they create magma – hot, unstable, but capable of building entire islands. And honestly, that’s the kind of red flag I’ll ignore every time.
