Wine, Whimsy, and a Whole Lot of Taurus
I’m a star sign girlie, which I’m sure you’ve picked up by now. Taurus sun, Pisces moon, Libra rising. So yes, when I buy wine to drown my feelings, it’s not just wine. It’s the expensive, handpicked, possibly French, very dramatic kind. Because if you’re going to cry into your glass, it might as well be something from the premium shelf.
When I meet someone new, I’ll ask about their star sign before I even remember their last name. Nothing says emotional intelligence like judging someone by a celestial body’s location at the moment of their birth. But in all fairness, it’s not about judgement. It’s about vibes. And yes, that does make me sound like I shop for crystals and have opinions on Mercury retrograde. (I mean…)
What makes it all the more chaotic is that I’ve got a stellium in Taurus, Libra and Sagittarius. It’s given me the rare and ridiculous talent of being glamorous while falling apart, spinning three romantic plotlines at once, and telling stories of my latest adventures at a party before vanishing into the kitchen for a quiet moment with the cat. Honestly, it’s like living in a rom-com written by a very confused astrologer.
But let’s be real, astrology is just a bit of fun. It’s not (modern) science. It’s not gospel. It’s not the reason your ex was emotionally unavailable or why you ghosted your dentist. It’s a tool. A way to reflect, giggle, and sometimes shake your head when the app says you’ll be emotionally volatile today and you’re already crying over a pasta advert. So, let’s dive in with curiosity, not blame. Your star sign isn’t an excuse, but it can be a helpful mirror if you let it.
Your Chart Doesn’t Give You a Free Pass
It’s tempting to say, “I can’t help it, I’m just a Leo,” when we’ve steamrolled through a group chat or made someone cry in a team meeting. I’ve been there. I’ve used my Taurus stubbornness as an excuse for digging my heels in during an argument, even when I knew I was wrong. But growth comes from acknowledging the pattern, not defending it.
Astrology can highlight traits you may recognise in yourself, but it’s not a get-out-of-jail-free card. You can’t blame the stars every time you snap at your mum or forget your friend’s birthday. It’s not the moon’s fault. Sometimes you’re just a bit of a grump who didn’t eat enough protein. That’s not Jupiter, that’s hangry.
Knowing your chart is like knowing your strengths and weaknesses on a video game stat sheet. It helps you understand where you naturally shine and where you might trip yourself up. But the game still expects you to play, learn, level up. Otherwise, you’re just walking around shouting, “Sorry I’m late, I’m a Sagittarius,” like that explains why you forgot the meeting was even happening.
Accountability Looks Better in Retrograde
Let’s talk about self-awareness. Because being into astrology isn’t just about sending memes and predicting break-ups. It’s also about holding a mirror up and saying, “Yeah, okay, I do get a little dramatic when I feel ignored,” or “I do procrastinate until the last possible second because I’m overwhelmed by options.” (Looking at you, Libra rising.)
Astrology can offer insight, but it should never become a crutch. If we know we’re wired for certain behaviours, that knowledge should empower us to shift, not stagnate. I’m deeply loyal as a Taurus, but I also cling to things long past their use-by date. That includes people, patterns, and more than a few limp carrots I refused to throw out because it felt wasteful.
But here’s the thing. Owning my emotional landscape doesn’t mean excusing it. It means I get to navigate it better. When my Pisces moon has me in tears over a mild inconvenience, I don’t say, “That’s just who I am.” I say, “Okay, something’s stirred. Let’s feel it, but let’s not spiral into a pity party and forget to pay the power bill*.”
*I have never forgotten to pay a bill, and have everything set up for automatic payments the day I get paid. My Taurus stellium is strong.
The Star Sign Stereotype Trap
We all know the clichés. Geminis can’t make decisions. Scorpios are secretive. Aries are always fighting someone. Taureans eat their feelings. And yes, sometimes they hit home a little too hard. But clinging to these traits like they’re set in stone limits who we get to become.
You’re not stuck in a box because of when you were born. If anything, the beauty of astrology is that it invites nuance. You’re a cosmic cocktail of sun, moon, rising, and all the planets doing their weird little dances. You’re not just a Capricorn. You’re a Capricorn with a Cancer moon and a Leo Venus. That explains why you’re ambitious and a cuddler and somehow always the most overdressed person in the room.
There’s space to evolve. To shift gears. To break the pattern. If you always use your sign as a blanket explanation, you miss the chance to notice when you’re doing better. You miss the pride of saying, “I handled that conversation with grace today,” even though everything in your natal chart was yelling, “Run and hide!”
Signs Are Tools, Not Shackles
One of the most freeing moments in my life was realising that astrology wasn’t meant to trap me in a personality cage. It was meant to help me spot the repeating loops. I started noticing how my Libra rising had me romanticising chaos and making consistently questionable relationship choices, all because I was chasing balance in the most unbalanced places.
It wasn’t an excuse to keep dating walking red flags just because they had a nice jawline and texted back promptly. It was a clue. A breadcrumb pointing toward my habit of mistaking chemistry for compatibility. So instead of letting my Libra rising keep picking romantic chaos disguised as charm, I started questioning what actual balance and harmony looked like in real relationships.
Your chart can reveal patterns. But it’s your job to decide whether to repeat them or rewrite them. Knowing your Mercury is in retrograde isn’t a reason to cancel all your plans. It’s a heads-up to double-check the email you just sent to your boss. Awareness isn’t the end of the story. It’s the beginning of conscious choice.
Your Ex Isn’t a Dick Because He’s a Libra
Look, I get it. It’s fun to blame the chaos of our relationships on astrology. “Of course he broke up with me over text, he’s a Sagittarius.” But the truth is, bad behaviour is a personal decision, not a planetary one. Your ex wasn’t a dick because he’s a Libra. He was just a dick. The stars didn’t cheat on you, he did.
Astrology can help us understand why certain dynamics feel comfortable or confrontational. Maybe your Virgo Venus clashed with his Aries Mars. Maybe your Cancer moon felt unsafe around his emotionally detached Aquarius sun. But at the end of the day, people are responsible for their own actions, no matter their zodiac.
And before you come for me, yes, I’ve done it too. I’ve ranted about a Leo who wouldn’t stop talking about himself or a Capricorn who prioritised spreadsheets over intimacy. But I’ve also cared for Geminis who were unexpectedly consistent, Scorpios who didn’t once try to ruin my life, and loved an Aries who was kind and gentle, and is still my bestie. So let’s leave the blame at the door and use astrology to reflect, not project.
My birth chart is just a polite way of saying I’m dramatic in five different languages.
You Are Not Your Birth Chart (But It Does Have Good Taste)
Here’s what I believe: your star sign doesn’t define you, but it does help you get to know yourself in a slightly sparkly, slightly ridiculous, often uncannily accurate way. It’s a starting point, not a stopping point. A mirror, not a prison.
Astrology won’t excuse bad behaviour, but it might explain why you’re better at solo travel than team sports. Why you need three business ideas in the air at all times. Why you’re crying in the work toilets because someone said your idea was “fine.” (It was brilliant, thank you.)
So use your chart with curiosity, not defence. Let it show you the edges of your personality you haven’t quite figured out how to round. Let it offer comfort when you feel too strange to be understood. But never let it shrink you into something predictable. Because the most powerful thing about knowing your chart? Is choosing what to do with it.
Your chart doesn’t excuse your chaos. But it can help you love it, understand it, and evolve it. You’re not just made of stardust – you’re made of choices. So choose the version of you who checks their transits and their text tone before replying ‘k’ during an argument. That’s alignment, babe.
