Yes, I’m a Taurus. Yes, It Shows.

I’m a Taurus, which means I was born with a deeply held belief that beautiful things are a basic human right. Not luxury. Not indulgence. Basic. The same way some people need fresh air and sunlight, I need a properly weighted wine glass and sheets that don’t feel like sandpaper. It’s not a flex. It’s a survival mechanism.

I’ve tried being one of those low maintenance girls. The ones who claim they could live out of a backpack and don’t care about thread count or perfume layering. I didn’t last long. My nervous system simply doesn’t regulate in ugly environments, and I’ve accepted that about myself.

So here are ten things I refuse to compromise on. Some are genuinely expensive. Some are deceptively affordable. All of them make my daily life feel a little more considered, a little more deliberate, a little more mine. Bougie isn’t about money. It’s about intention. Let’s get into it.

The Daily Non-Negotiables

A Proper Matcha Latte From the Bougie Place

There’s a café in my orbit that imports organic ceremonial grade matcha directly from Japan, and they whisk it in front of you with quiet precision. It’s delicious. It’s a small ceremony. It’s twice the price of the mid tier matcha down the road, and I don’t care. Once you’ve had matcha prepared properly, the powdery green stuff at chain cafés tastes like a pale imitation. I’m a green tea girl through and through, and this is the upgrade my mornings deserve.

Bamboo Sheets, Non Negotiable

If you’re still sleeping on basic cotton sheets, I need you to sit down. Bamboo sheets are the most luxurious thing your skin will ever touch. They’re cool in summer, cosy in winter, soft in a way that feels almost unfair, and they get better with every wash. The first night I slept on them, I genuinely understood what good sleep was supposed to feel like. Non negotiable. Worth every cent.

Red Light Therapy, My Personal Miracle

I’d been using a red light therapy mask for years, fully convinced I was already winning at life. Then I upgraded to a full panel and realised I’d been operating on amateur hour. The panel is a different sport entirely. It calms my nervous system in a way I genuinely can’t explain. It also, and I say this with my full chest, cures hangovers. I don’t know the science. I don’t need to know the science. I stand in front of it, breathe, and emerge slightly more functional and significantly less inflamed.

A Skincare Routine That Does the Heavy Lifting

My skin is my entire personality at this point, which is fortunate because my hair is unpredictable and my makeup skills peaked at twenty three. I’m deep into KBeauty. I love experimenting with actives, layering serums, and treating my bathroom shelf like a small, well stocked laboratory. My routine is the reason I’m still socially acceptable in public. It’s not vanity. It’s maintenance.

Fortnightly Manicures With My Beloved Nail Tech

Every two weeks I’m in that chair. French tip or a cat eye, depending on my mood. It costs extra. I tip her every single time. She’s part of my ritual now, and the moment I walk out with freshly painted nails I feel composed. Pulled together. Like a woman who has her week under control, even when she doesn’t. The ritual is the point.

The Considered Indulgences

Proper Stemware for the Right Drink

I won’t, under any circumstances, serve red wine in a white wine glass. I won’t pour champagne into a tumbler. I’ve got a proper collection of glassware, each fit for purpose, and I’m loyal to Krosno because they nail the simple elegance thing without being pretentious about it. The glass changes the drink. The glass changes the mood. If you think this is excessive, you simply haven’t tried it.

Bougie Groceries From the Fancy Shop

I’ll absolutely buy the expensive salted butter, because it genuinely tastes better. Some things I happily buy home brand and feel nothing about it. But other things, like organic extra virgin olive oil imported from Spain, are in a completely different universe to the generic label from Coles. You can taste the difference. You can smell the difference. When I lived in Adelaide, I shopped exclusively at Foodland, and I knew exactly which store had the best deli section. Groceries aren’t just fuel. They’re a small weekly pleasure I genuinely look forward to.

Arabic Perfumes, the Real Deal

If you know, you know. I used to love Western designer perfumes, until I realised they were evaporating off my skin within an hour. Arabic perfumes are a completely different sport. The oils are richer, the longevity is remarkable, and you smell incredible until tomorrow. Once you cross over, you don’t go back. My skin holds these scents like it was waiting its whole life for them.

Designer Bags, High Low Energy

I love a well structured handbag. Whether it’s a Mimco I genuinely splurged on or a very convincing DHgate rep, my bags say this woman has her life together. They don’t need to know about the receipts and stray lip balms inside. High low fashion is the only fashion. Carry the rep. Wear it with confidence. The bag doesn’t know how much it cost, and neither does anyone else.

Fortnightly Reflexology

Does reflexology actually do what people claim it does? I genuinely have no idea. What I do know is that someone presses specific points on my feet for an hour every fortnight, and I leave feeling like I’ve been emotionally rebooted. It’s part ritual, part nervous system reset, part hour where I’m not allowed to look at my phone. That alone is worth the money. If it also balances my chi, that’s a bonus.

Bougie Isn’t a Budget, It’s a Lifestyle

None of this is about being rich. Some of these things cost almost nothing once you spread them across the months. Some of them are honest splurges that I plan for. The point isn’t the price tag. The point is choosing things that make your everyday feel a little more considered, a little more yours, a little less like you’re just enduring your own life.

If you want to be bougie, start small. Upgrade one thing. The sheets. The matcha. The handbag. Pick the one that’s been quietly nagging at you and just commit. You’ll be amazed at how a single elevated detail makes the rest of your day feel slightly more luxurious by association. Bougie is a mindset that leaks into everything around it.

I’m not telling you to spend money you don’t have. I’m telling you to stop punishing yourself for wanting nice things. Wanting beautiful surroundings isn’t shallow. Wanting comfort isn’t weakness. Wanting to be the kind of woman who has a designated red wine glass and a signature perfume isn’t vanity. It’s just being a Taurus, babe. And honestly? It suits us.

We Need to Stop Clapping for Basic Decency Chaos, Crumbs and Clarity

In today's episode of Chaos, Crumbs and Clarity, we're unpacking why we need to stop clapping for basic decency. You know the script. A man texts back within twenty-four hours and we're screenshotting it to the group chat. A man plans a date more than three hours in advance and we call him a unicorn. A man manages to listen, pay attention, and behave like a fully formed adult, and our nervous systems short-circuit because we genuinely don't know how to receive it.Here's the truth nobody is saying out loud. The bar has been dragged so low that Satan himself needs a chiropractor after a competitive round of limbo. We've been culturally trained to be grateful for behaviour that should not require gratitude. We've been told these things are bonuses when they're actually the entry requirement. And in the meantime, women have been quietly doing the basic decency thing forever, without applause, while men get standing ovations for outputs we generated for them.Today we're talking about why a great man is genuinely just an average woman, who benefits when the bar stays low, the invisible labour women have been performing for free for centuries, and the friend-test that cuts straight through every excuse we've ever made for mediocre men. Let's get into it.For more visit  BryJaimea.com or follow over on IG  @BryJaimea
