Back in 2017 I had a bit of a hair disaster, where a hairdresser turned my bouncy brown tresses into something more akin to straw – orange with a tendency to snap. Since this nightmare, I’ve slowly been trying to grow my hair out with the occasional visit to the salon to cut out the damage left behind. However, this is a long and slow process, as I am sure you can imagine.
Over the past 18 months most of the damage has been grown out and cut out, but there’s still a fair amount left which has meant that since the hair colour of doom, I’ve not actually been able to wear my hair out, and even tying it back into a ponytail has irritated the damaged strands.
Over the past 18 months I’ve lost my hair confidence.
Now, being more than aware of Olaplex, I’ve been purchasing this (No1 and No2) off the black market (i.e. eBay) which is all good and fine when you actually get Olaplex. The problem with buying it off eBay is there is no guarantee the quality of the product, if it’s been “cut” with another product, or if it even contains any Olaplex at all.
Which inevitably means, despite (or maybe because...) using Black Market Olaplex once a month on my hair, I’ve noticed only mild improvement – but it certainly hasn’t gotten any worse. I mean, to be fair, it has improved vastly thanks to Olaplex, however I wasn’t seeing results as quickly as I wanted too.
It’s a long and slow process…
When I saw last month that Olaplex had released a line of Shampoos and Conditioners, I started thinking that although £25 a pop, this may be the answer to my prayers, rather than, y’know, buying counterfeit Olaplex. But then I started thinking… Olaplex has been out for years which means there should be a more affordable option out there by now which uses the same technology.
AND THERE IS.
I discovered that Superdrug stocks PurePlex by Knight and Wilson which promises to restore your hair, to repair and protect it. It features Aminofix repair and protect bond reconstructing technology which basically undoes all the damage you’ve done to your hair from bleaching, dying, and heat, i.e. it’s life Olaplex for the non-hairdressing masses.
It was on sale for £7.95 when I first saw it, so I quickly snapped it up, willing to give anything a try in order to improve my hair. That evening I followed the instructions carefully and…
You know when your hair is so damaged that it can take hours, if not a day or two to dry completely without attacking it with a hair dryer? Well, that’s been my life since August 2017. And after using PurePlex, for the first time since August 2017 my hair was dry within hours.
Seeing the huge improvement one single PurePlex treatment had on my hair, I purchased another box (no longer on sale, now £12.95) and the results were even greater – sure I still had a few split ends, but the elasticity and mushy feeling due to damage I had grown used to had all but gone.
The next day I wore my hair down.
Would I recommend PurePlex? Definitely! It’s a four-step system that takes about half an hour, has a pleasant odour, and one box is enough for long hair, so you don’t need to buy two boxes like you would have to were it hair dye. Speaking of hair dye, you can also buy PurePlex infused Hair Dye and Shamp & Cond. Easy!
PurePlex is super simple to use, and super effective. So if you've lost your hair confidence, or your strands just need a little bit of extra love, PurePlex has your back.
