Hooray it’s May!
And… My laptop has died.
A dead laptop means sporadic updates until I can have it repaired (thankfully it’s under warranty), but I won’t have a chance to have it sent off for another two weeks – damn real-work and Paris getting in the way!
Anyway, broken equipment aside, my birthday is on Sunday. I don’t have the best track record when it comes to Birthdays, but that doesn’t mean I don’t try to keep a positive outlook on the whole occasion!
Ben and I will be in Paris this time next week, and yesterday his family headed over my way (with their doggo, Loki) for a birthday pub lunch – It was a lovely afternoon, and the weather was just perfect! We went to Canal Station which has a large beer garden, and is very nice and very quite.
Also, the food is lovely and if you know me, you know that the scenery can go to heck if the food is good enough.
We spent a few hours enjoying the sun before popping home for a cup of tea, and slowly re-introducing Maia and Loki. Despite Maia being a small cat, and Loki being a big dog, they managed to get quite close, before Maia got a fright.
Oh, and I received presents! A Mezza Luna, a birthday candle, and three wee succulents with magnets on their planters so I can stick them to my fridge: Perfect presents! Thanks guys x
Since making this post, I’ve not lost an inch but I’m not beating myself up over it. I could make a thousand excuses for my over-eating for the past month, but they’d just be excuses.
I have improved my eating habits though, and am making my own healthy salads to take in to work, and cutting back on the takeaways and ready meals. In all honesty, I may have lost some weight, but I haven’t weighed myself since last week, and am a bit scared to.
Regarding the lifestyle changes I am making, I hate referring to it as “weight loss” because it’s more about how I am living, being accountable for my actions, and choosing to have a healthier life. Losing weight is just a benefit of those choices and that healthy focus!
Over the next few weeks, once we’re back from Paris, I will be focusing a lot on the flat and preparing it for Ben to move in at the end of the month. There’ll be a lot of reorganising, installing of additional shelving, changing of artwork etc etc.
This weekend, we gave the flat a deep, thorough clean as part of prepping for the move – what a fabulous way to spend a long, sunny weekend (can you hear my eyes rolling from there?).
I am also considering asking the Land Lord if we can paint our horrid Magnolia coloured walls to a lighter cream colour, which will brighten the property considerably.
I have learned to dislike Magnolia coloured paint intensely over the past year or so I’ve been living here, and it looks as though the flat hasn’t been painted in a very long time. I’ve been steadily patching up the holes, dents, et al, left by previous tenants, and as I paint over them, the new paint is sticking out over the old like a sore thumb, which is not a nice look!
By the time Ben moves in though, the place should be in tip top shape, and a space that’s ready to accommodate not just one person and a cat, but two people (and a cat). Maia absolutely adores Ben, so I am pretty sure she’ll appreciate the addition of an extra body to cuddle up to of an eve.
Speaking of Maia, we had her annual check-up last weekend and I am happy to say she’s still in perfect health. She weighs 3kg, is up to date with her vaccinations, has healthy eyes, teeth and coat, and the Vet thought Maia to be an absolutely beautiful cat, who holds herself well and acted in a very dignified and elegant manner, despite being you know, at the Vets.
Whilst we’re in Paris, Maia will be staying at the cattery, and although it’s going to break my heart to be away from her, I know she’ll be looked after whilst we’re away – she’s going to be so angry at me when she comes home, but Maia tends to get angry at me a lot for the silliest of reasons (buying her the wrong food, rolling over in my sleep, getting home from work early, etc), so eh, what can I do?
I want to talk about food, and the recipes I am planning for the month ahead, but to be honest I’ve had so many other things on my mind that although I am cooking new content all the time, I just haven’t had the time to post them.
However, I can easily talk about shoes until the cows come home, and continuing my mules obsession, these were a gift to myself from H&M the other day. They’re also available in Silver, which I wish I had bought, but I wear a lot more neutral colours, so the khaki works best for me.
I also bought a fabulous pair of black patent boots that were on sale down to £15 from £50, however I soon found out why they were so heavily discounted – design flaw meaning you’d have to crack your feet in half jus to get them on.
Needless to say they were quickly refunded.
After I pay my May bills, I’ll more likely than not be buying these golden beauties, though they’re not on sale and I hardly ever buy my shoes full price – damn you Zara!
On a final note, there won’t be many updates to the blog this month due to the aforementioned broken laptop.
