Smoked Salmon Salad with Japanese Wafu Dressing

Did you know there ar two different types of smoked salmon? This recipe uses the type you may not be too familiar with – hot smoked salmon. It has a completely different flavour and texture to the other type of smoked salmon, and it is absolutely perfect in salads.

This recipe is inspired by a salad I used to purchase in Brisbane. I became so addicted t this salad, I had to replicate it so now that I’m in the UK I can have it whenever I feel the need!

What Will I Need?


150g flaked hot smoked salmon
120g mixed salad leaves
2 tomato, finely sliced, seeds removed
1 onion, thinly sliced
1/2 carrot, finely grated


1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
1 1/2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1 tbsp peanut oil
1 tsp sesame oil
1/2 tbsp finely diced brown onion
1 tsp minced ginger
Small pinch sugar

What Now?

  1. In a small jar, combine all dressing ingredients and shake well.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the leaves, tomato, onion, carrot, and dressing.
  3. Divide the salad between four bowls and top with smoked salmon.
  4. Serve.
