Has this week dragged for anyone else, or just me? My week thus far has been spent wondering why it isn’t Friday already, and playing The Sims 3, which I haven’t played for years! It’s such a relaxing game, and when I mean relaxing, I mean I play as a Completionist which is where I turn off aging and attempt to complete EVERY skill and task within the game before allowing my Sim any sort of actual storyline. They must complete every career, every supernatural sim, learn everything. Yeah, I’m not a fun person in real life it seems!
As well as playing Sims, I’ve kinda just been taking things easy. Having a blasted cold hasn’t helped when it comes to motivation or focus, so I’ve been giving myself a break mentally. I kinda realised a few weeks ago that I had become massively focused, bordering on obsessed, with many aspects of my daily life – such as skincare and blogging – as a way to distract myself, as a form of escapism, from the massive amounts of stress I was experiencing since moving to Scotland.
However, with those stressors now removed from my life, I’m starting to finally, after several years, relax into a more sustainable lifestyle emotionally and psychologically. I still look after my skin and I still care for blogging, but there’s no need to escape into these worlds anymore. Plus, my stress wrinkle has reduced in severity quite considerably, which I think is mainly down to this little gem.
I’m also having a lot of fun creating the wee InstaGlam graphics every day, bringing sparkle and glitter into my followers lives. Not that I have many, and you know what? That’s more than ok.
Anyway, rather than bringing you some instructional content, or a thinly veiled sales pitch, I thought I’d share a few tidbits about me, to share with you a bit more about who I am and what motivates me. I was going to do 10, then 5, but have decided that I can do as many as I want really, after all, who’s really going to mind how many I do or don’t do? I ended up doing 7 which is a pretty good number imo.
So here’s some stuff about me you probably don’t know!
I’ve mentioned before how I received a life changing diagnosis when I was 24 but without going any further into detail. Well, I was diagnosed with Tourettes which is a neurological disorder with a bad reputation. Although the media and Hollywood portray Tourettes to be swearing and vulgarity, this could not be further from the truth and is just nonsense. Tourettes is characterised by a physical and verbal tic which can be anything from a sniff to a cough, but it does also come with a side of anxiety, depression, OCD, as well as a few other things such as Anger.
Is it an easy life living with Tourettes? No. But do I manage well enough? Yes. Given I can’t take medication, I’ve simply learned to be more conscious and aware of my actions, and my tics mostly go unnoticed. And the Anger? No one knows how to find Zen faster than I do!
I mentioned in this post that I practice Tarot readings and am pretty good at it. Well, I also practice other forms of divination quite regularly, and my spirituality is a massive part of my life. The main feature of this is my belief in Fate. Now, I don’t believe that our futures are written in stone and unchangeable, but I do believe that we have paths set out for us that will bring us true happiness. These paths can change at any time, but if you focus and are aware of them, you’ll be better in place to see the signposts that help you on your way. This is why I practice divination – to see if I am on the correct path, and to know what’s going to happen when.
Whether it’s self-fulfilling prophecy, or something a little bit metaphysical, I prefer to believe in a little magic and believe that although science can answer a lot, it can’t answer everything. Plus, magic is just science we don’t understand yet, right?
“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”Friedrich Nietzsche
This is by far my favourite quote and one I live by. To me it means that until we understand other people’s circumstances, we’ll never truly understand them and their actions. Before we judge people, because let’s be honest, it’s human nature to judge, we should be aware of as many facts as we can, as even the smallest piece of missing information may contaminate our views. Just because you don’t understand a person’s actions, doesn’t mean their actions are without meaning.
I love to write, and have been writing for as long as I can remember, both poetry and short stories, and I had poetry published when I was 18. Over the years I have written hundreds of short stories, and have attempted to work on novels also. At the moment I am working on one of these again, which is a YA novel feature witches and vampires and the like. If you are interested in reading any of my short stories, just head over to my old Deviant Art page which has a few of them in my gallery. One day I would love to be a published novelist, and who knows, maybe one day I’ll do a book signing in your city and we can sneak away for a cup of tea (Bubble Tea, preferably).
When it comes to Art, you may have noticed my new Instagram is a bit more graphically based rather than photography. Although both my brother and sister are artists, that gene seemed to skip me (I’m the writer of the family), however I am quite good at making things look pretty – I can pull together random things, mush them together, and make them work together nicely (which is why I’m so damn Stylish haha). But, that’s the extent of my visual skill unfortunately!
I love to eat, and cook, and read cookbooks. It’s just one of those things. I don’t know where I learned my cooking abilities, because my mum and dad were both “Jar of Sauce” types who overcooked everything. I grew up in a very multicultural part of Sydney and so was surrounded with plenty of Chinese, Vietnamese and Turkish cuisine, and I love all of them. Give me freshly baked rolls from the local Vietnamese bakery on a Sunday morning and I am so happy – or a Banh Mi for lunch every day would do nicely too. Short soup (aka Wonton Soup) I could happily eat every day for the rest of my life, and authentic Hummus and Tabbouleh will always have a place in my heart. My favourite thing to cook though is Risotto alla Milanese though, followed closely by Lasagne – I make a mean Bechamel.
I have a weird goal for my retirement that I am hoping will come to fruition, and links in with No. 2 on this list. My dream and goal for retirement is to open up a wee metaphysical store, selling crystals, tarot decks, oracle cards, herbs, incense, candles, metaphysical guides, and the like. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a teenager, and I would love for it to become a reality. I want to be that woman behind the counter, surrounded by beautiful things with meaning, helping people along their spiritual journey. It’s not glamourous, but as I stated in No. 2 – my spirituality is my main driving force in life, and I would love the opportunity to share that with people. I’m actually working on another blog, btw, that ties in with my interest in the metaphysical – content which doesn’t have a place amongst shiny shoes and glitter.
Yes, I believe in star signs, but not horoscopes. Yes, I know this isn’t for everyone, but it serves me well and has helped me make some very good decisions throughout my life. The people I trust due to their sign have never disappointed, and the people I don’t trust due to their signs? Well, my wariness of them kept me safe in the long run. Firstly, I’m a Taurus and a very typical one at that, however I ignore what the books say as to who I should or shouldn’t get along with. I know that if you’re a male Aquarius we’ll end up close confidants, whereas if you’re a female Sagittarius we’ll be great friends though we’ll rarely see each other. I love shopping with female Aries, and there’ll always be wine afterwards as we look at our new shoes. Female Pisces and I will hang out comfortably in each other’s company and have an absolutely giggle fest when we do. Taurus men always become close friends, though the friendship will always end rather dramatically. And so on and so forth.
Also, I have a pretty good theory as to the validity of star signs that is based in science which makes it much less woo-woo, so I’m pretty happy with that.
There you go: 7 things you probably didn’t know about me! These are probably the biggest aspects of my personality yet I keep many of them private and outside of this blog and my social media. I am working on a new blog, very slowly, that will incorporate these parts of my life, but that blog won’t be anything like this one, and I won’t be advertising here at all.
So, with all that said and done, there you go! Some stuff about me you probably didn’t know!
